L’Auberge des Moules
Let’s head towards the Zeelandic Flanders to the southwest of the country, to the small village of Philippine, near the port of Terneuzen on the Belgian border. Shellfish a-go-go arrive in their dozens in the summer season, and this top-notch establishment provides an ideal opportunity to sample the local fare. L’Auberge des Moules has graced the locality for some 42 years. With its friendly, sophisticated decor, from the wooden beams to the model ships and old photographs, a strong theme presides for seafood aficionados, with oysters, fish, prawn salad with lemon and ginger and a 100% lobster-themed menu, just some of the delights on offer.
And if that doesn’t tantalise your taste-buds, the restaurant most certainly comes with a proven pedigree, having been awarded a “Bib Gourmand” from the prestigious Michelin guide, for its high quality produce at great value for money. Guests are greeted with a warm smile from hosts Joris and Manon, which lasts right through to dessert, with a magnificent choice comprising white chocolate mousse, blood orange ice-cream and nougat parfait, in a palette of flavours comprising pistachio, cherry crunch and yuzu strawberry ... all married to perfection with a bottle of Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte. Party time!
