Hambourg: the city of water follows its course...

The second major city in Germany with a population of 1.8 million, Hamburg offers visitors an infinite number of attractions, ranging from art to culture, musical theatre and world stage (it is the third most important city for musicals after New York and London), a wide-ranging theatre programme boasting 31 stages and including the famous Deutches Schauspielhaus, restaurants galore, luxury shopping, scintillating nightlife and many interesting sites of historical significance, bearing witness to 1,200 years of history.

Built on the Elbe in the 9th century, then developed in the midst of the Hanseatic League and the war of the pirates, Hamburg today is young and modern, with a resolutely global outlook and rich architectural style, albeit steeped in contrast. Cosmopolitan in its outlook, the city also plays host to more than 100 consulates, the highest number for a non-capital city after New York.

And a visit to the port is all the proof you need. Here, boats from across the globe flow through this immense harbour, which can be visited by boat, an exotic promise generating a chance encounter during a far-flung adventure…
