Munich: Stylish Bavaria
It is one of the country’s most elegant and hugely diverse cities. Anchored in the south of Germany, just over the Swiss and Austrian borders, Bavaria evokes tradition… Ludwig II of Bavaria, stunning castles and romantic scenery… and exceptional and frenzied economic dynamism in equal measure.
Munich is known first and foremost for its beer festival, the famous Oktoberfest, and the largest fairground of its kind attracting tourists from around the world and originally organised to commemorate the wedding of Princess Therese from Saxony-Hildburghausen and Ludwig 1st of Bavaria.
And for out of season visitors, the “HB Haus” is the most famous bierkeller in the world, built by royalty in 1598, complete with its beer gardens, where the expression “art de vivre” really comes into its own. After work, the locals gather with friends around a “mass” containing a litre of beer, to be savoured under the chestnut trees accompanied by the Bavarian speciality “Obaza”, a kind of cheese dip.
Whether charming the opposite sex or for a Sunday family outing, the festive atmosphere and conviviality will not disappoint.
