Singapore: Wealth in its purest form
Singapore is a small city-state to the south of Malaysia, set in the tropical heat of the Indian Ocean. Otherwise known as the “City of Lions”, the “Switzerland of Asia”, “City of the Sea” (from its ancient Javan name) or “City-Garden”, Singapore is both a capital and country at once, home to 5 million people, and the second most densely populated country in the world (7,100 inhabitants per km2, second only to Monaco). Here cars drive on the left, the last vestiges of a former British colony which encouraged the lucrative immigration of its neighbours. The standard of living is good in Singapore and particularly well organised - as long as the air conditioning continues to work! Stainless steel constructions run alongside long avenues bordered with gardens and palm trees. The old 19th century buildings along the river have been converted into shops and contemporary offices...the future for one of the four powerful dragons of Asia.
